Study program Acting focuses at development of creative student’s dispositions not only in a classical stage acting but especially at the preparation of interdisciplinary equipped actors in modern professions of film, television, radio and dubbing acting and multimedia performances. Artistic study of acting has been designed to be taught on three basic levels: psychosomatic, creative and theoretical. First level- deepening and development of one’s own identity and creative individuality. Second level – development of physical expression and speech communication. Third level- the study of theory, art history and predominantly the dramatic one. The Bachelor level is brought to an end by creating a dramatic character under the teacher’s supervision in a Bachelor production within the school premises and the Master degree level is completed by individual artistic performance either in the production directed by the teacher of the Department of Dramaturgy, Directing and Theatrology within the theatre studios of the faculty or in a professional theatre. In the first year of Bachelor degree level the students present a monodramatic artistic performance, which presents their individual acting creation. The student acquires: approach to the study within an intercultural context (dubbing, radio acting, basics of film and television action); interpersonal skills related to a teamwork; wide spectrum of both creative and practical skills; creative search and exploration of connections, new views and artistic procedures; creative interpretative and realization techniques; ability to determine connection between piece of art, artistic performance and a spectator and finally the ability to collaborate internationally in conducing of an artistic production and in research work. Students annually participate at Slovak and international theatrical presentations, festivals, workshops and conferences. The graduate from Acting study program acquires knowledge of historical and contemporary forms of theatre art. He acquires practical basics of creative processes and methods for creating a stage work. The graduates find work as members of professional theatre ensembles, in media, in cultural centers, at senior positions of amateur ensembles and dramatic unions of artistic schools and in a wide spectrum of artistic, educational and organizational work. They obtain a creative personality in the field of acting and all its spheres (theatre, television, film, radio, dubbing). The studies are concluded by realization of a complete artistic project (in the fields of theatre, radio, film or television).

The aim of the study field Theatre Art and its study programs is at educating theatre artists, development of their talent, abilities and skills needed to reach professional standard in their selected study program. Its content is theoretical and practical acquisition of knowledge, methods and procedures, genres and styles of theatrical production. The content is based on individual creativity and realization of a piece of art or an artistic performance and it is supplemented by the study of study program units coming from the areas of humanities and social sciences involving sufficient amount of supplementary knowledge and relations.
Education puts an emphasis on student’s creativity. In higher years the study is especially focused on practice and students are given space to direct in professional as well as in amateur theatre companies; to prepare independent premieres in theatre studios of the faculty; to act as dramaturges, direction assistants and directors in professional theatre; to spend part of their study abroad within an international exchange. Every year the students actively participate in Slovak and international theatre-meetings, festivals, workshops and conferences.
The Department of Dramaturgy, Directing and Theatrology also provides for activities of the Research, Documentation and Creative Center of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts – Kleio. The center is involved in scientific research in the area of theatrical art and pedagogy and enters joint research and creativity projects with partnership universities and institutions in the Slovak Republic and abroad. It collects, examines and publishes documents related to theatrical activities. The Kleio Center activities expand gradually directly related to the creation of suitable technical, spatial and personnel conditions.

The content of the study program draws from traditional professions, which contribute to film production – from drafting a project, selection of topic, screen-writing process, directing, photography, sound, editing to final work. The study involves a series of practical film assignments and tasks with various levels of difficulty, which students are challenged to solve. During the studies, an emphasis is put on individual artistic creation in cooperation with pedagogue. Each semester, this cooperation results in making an authorial film, which is screened in public for pedagogical committee. Having the opportunity to choose from Optional subjects, students can improve their skills and competences in the field of other traditional film professions (photography, screen writing, editing, production). This allows for greater variability for students to employ his or her skills in practice. Students are free to use non-fiction films as a form of experiment to learn as well as a tool to prepare for making fiction films. This is the way they can develop their talent outside the field of documentary.

A graduate from this department receives both theoretical and practical knowledge of the film art and multimedia and is able to make use of it in his profession. The graduate obtains an overview of both the historical and contemporary forms of film art and multimedia. He acquires a practical basis of creative processes and methods for production and realization of literary preparation of both the film and multimedia work and related dramaturgy. Literary work for a film follows the tradition of dramatic work and film’s own history. It is a consistent authorial work activity, merging specific film work specifics with fantasy and literary talent. To bring up a film author and a dramaturg also means to cultivate their sensitivity to film expression means and creative procedures, the ability to react to original individual solutions and the ability to communicate with various types of team work and cooperation. The core of the study is in individual artistic work of a student under the supervision of a competent teacher. Expert theoretical courses make up the basis for the orientation in the particular field of study. Student presents the knowledge acquired during the course of study in written and oral exams and seminar works.
